Thugs of Hindostan box office prediction: Aamir Khan’s film could cross Rs 100 crore mark just 3 days | bollywood

Thugs of Hindostan is the big Diwali release of the year and boasts of a huge star cast including Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh, each with a huge fan following of their own. Film trade analysts are in no doubt that the film will get the cash registers ringing this Diwali. The makers however, have decided to raise the price of tickets, so as to justify the massive budget of the film that is made on a large scale.

The advance booking of the film, which opened on Saturday, is already hinting at houseful theatres with about 2 lakh tickets being sold on the first day itself, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The report also states that the film has already surpassed Tiger Zinda Hai, Sanju and Avengers – Infinity War though it’s still lagging behind Baahubali – The Conclusion in advance booking.

Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi claims the film will smash the 100 crore mark within three days of its release. He says, “First, the day after Diwali is always considered the best day of the year for the release of a film. Second, look at the elements that have come together in this film: Aamir, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina, YRF, the spectacle – all of these put together make it a very exciting package for people to come and watch in cinemas.”

“Third, the ticket price that the movie would be fetching will be among the highest that has ever been for any Hindi movie. That will eventually give the film a spike in the figures to come. By Saturday, it will easily run past the 100 crore mark,” he adds.

But will Aamir be able to break the record he has set with his last film Dangal? Rathi clarifies, “The elements that have come together for Thugs of Hindostan, they totally stand a chance to go beyond Dangal. But it eventually depends on how the audience reacts to the content. If the story is elusive and entertaining enough and the people have a good time watching it, I certainly think it can go beyond Dangal. God forbid if the film suffers at the level of the story and the script, then it may become an uphill task.”

For the record, the makers of the film have hiked the ticket prices which comes as a rude shock to the moviegoers. Rathi explains the reason behind such a decision, “It’s a matter of what is the value of the money you are giving to the audience. If you show me a movie like Stree for 600 Rs, I may not want to watch it or would watch it at a cinema with a lower ticket price or may be when it comes on the television or an online portal but if you show me a powerful movie at 800 Rs, I know it is the experience bought by money. If it’s a different kind of film, different price of tickets are justified. So it eventually becomes about the content that the movie offers is more than the price of the ticket.”

“If you are a fan of Aamir and Amitabh and Katrina, I think a slight premium is pretty well deserved. Its not about how much people pay, it’s about whether people get the experience worth more than the money that they pay,” he added.

Aamir also spoke to PTI in an interview about the fee hike: “I can understand it is an expensive film. Personally, I am always for tickets to be cheaper. I think we should have theatres that are economical and people should go and watch the film in theatre. It is my dream that in India you should have theatres that are economical, middle group and posh. Everyone should have the opportunity to access the film and I hope that happens.”

Rathi stands in Aamir’s support and says, “In general I totally agree that the price of the tickets need to come down. It needs to become the low hanging tree for the average Indian. It needs to become a sector that is affordable to the common man. The government should also make an effort in this regard as it also levies a lot of taxes on the price of the tickets.”

Kesari box office predictions: Akshay Kumar’s film could open at Rs 15 crore on Holi | bollywood

Actors Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra’s period war drama Kesari may not get the holiday advantage and is expected to open at around Rs 15 crore, according to film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi. “I think it has the potential to be his highest grosser till date,” he says.

Talking to Hindustan Times about the film’s prospects at the box office, Rathi said, “Holi is not expected to be an advantage as most of the malls and theatres remain shut during the first half. Despite the Holi disadvantage it should open at around Rs 15 crore.”

“It has the potential to go beyond Rs 30 crore in the first weekend and should certainly cross the Rs 100 crore mark on the 8th or 9th day,” he added.

Rathi expects director Anurag Singh’s film to be among Akshay’s highest grossers and said, “The movie has generated tremendous buzz and the kind of feedback coming from the screenings that have happened is terrific. Besides, it is about an event that makes every Indian proud and want them to know what happened more than 100 years ago. Akshay Kumar is one of the biggest superstars we have in the industry. I think it has the potential to be his highest grosser till date.”

Kesari is based on the Battle of Saragarhi when 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Indian Army took on the might of an estimated 10,000-strong army of Pashtun fighters in modern-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan.

The release of the film also coincides with Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota, which marks the Bollywood debut of Maine Pyar Kiya actor Bhagyashree’s son Abhimanyu Dassani, opposite Radhika Madan of Pataakha fame. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film won the People’s Choice Award: Midnight Madness at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. It revolves around a boy who suffers from a rare condition that doesn’t let him feel pain.

On being asked if the film can survive at the box office opposite Kesari, Rathi replies, “I don’t think there is any kind of competition between them as both cater to very different kind of audiences. It is a much smaller film and since the budget of the film is much less, the recovery shouldn’t be a problem.”

Puncch Beat review: This school drama will remind you of Student of the Year | tv

Puncch Beat

Creators: Vikas Gupta

Cast: Priyank Sharma, Siddharth Sharma, Harshita Gaur, Khushi Joshi, Samir Soni

Rating: 2.5/5

If Puncch Beat, ALT Balaji’s new web series, is targeting millennials and their angst – it ticks all the right boxes. There are wealthy dysfunctional families, manic pixie school girls and schoolboys who consider gym their spiritual home, ergo enough sculpted bodies.

Logic, of course, takes a beating for there are no real classes in the fictional school world of Puncch Beat. Students do carry books around like a fashionable accessory but are rarely seen using them. The school, however, is as posh as it gets with world class facilities for boxing, horse-riding, painting and what not.

So, if this reminds you of Karan Johar’s Student of the Year, you are not the only one. And that is perhaps not the only film Puncch Beat gives a nod to, there is a scene involving a boy running around the school naked that makes you think American Pie. A scene on the school terrace will make you think of Shah Rukh Khan’s Main Hoon Na.

Having established that there are enough references, the film it is closest to remains the Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt debut – in both tone and treatment.

Puncch Beat’s two leads Raahat (Priyank Sharma) and Ranbir Chaudhary (Siddharth Sharma) look as buffed and toned while Ranbir’s girlfriend (Khushi Joshi, the Cadbury girl) is as big a stunner on screen as Alia. Not to force a point, Ranbir plays the school trustee’s (Samir Soni) son and the actor has more than a passing resemblance with Varun.

However, from here on, the show’s story kicks in. The episodes are roughly 15-30 minutes in length and offer enough frothy entertainment to keep you hooked. Directed by Suyash Vadhavkar, Puncch Beat is populated by flawed characters, with some of them finding redemption as the show progresses. He also knows how to keep his viewers hooked – the second episode is titled ‘The Sunny Leone project’, for instance.

The show pits Raahat against Ranbir. While Priyank’s Raahat is an illegitimate child who is yearning to be accepted by his family, Siddharth’s Ranbir – his half brother – wants nothing to do with him. Samir plays their dad who goes out of his way to hurt Raahat but his wife – school principal (played by Niki Walia) – is in Raahat’s corner.

Show’s female leads are two sisters, played by Harshita Gaur and Síndhuja Turlapatí who live with disciplinarian aunt and are ready to rebel. With Puncch Beat’s episodes full of intrigue, revenge and an unexpected kiss, there’s nary a moment to get bored as long as you keep expectations in check.

The 13-episode series ends with a promise of a sequel. Perhaps that will focus on content all its own and not a Bollywood cut-paste job.
