BJP Lawmaker Anil Gote U-Turns On Resignation After Meeting Devendra Fadnavis

The Chief Minister has assured Anil Gote that he will choose candidates for the Dhule civic polls

Maharashtra BJP lawmaker Anil Gote Monday said he will not go ahead with its decision to quit the assembly and also the party after holding a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

On November 12, Mr Gote had said he will resign from the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as well as the BJP to protest against what he called induction of “criminals” into the party.

The MLA from Dhule in North Maharashtra said he has now agreed not to tender his resignation on two conditions. “I have decided to change my mind after meeting with the chief minister. I have laid down two conditions before him – the BJP should not induct criminals into the party and the upcoming Dhule Municipal Corporation polls should be fought (by the party) under my leadership,” Mr Gote said.

Mr Gote said Mr Fadnavis asked him to meet Maharashtra BJP president Raosaheb Danve and state party organization secretary to sort out the issues raised by him.

“The CM has assured me that I will have right to select candidates for the Dhule civic polls,” he said.

The legislator had won the 2009 assembly election from Dhule as an Independent and joined the BJP ahead of the 2014 state polls.

He was earlier arrested in connection with the multi-crore stamp paper scam and is now out on bail. In the past, the legislator had denied any involvement in the scam, which was spread over several states, including Maharashtra.

“Fight Between Two Ideologies:” Sachin Pilot Files Nomination For Rajasthan Polls

Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot said today the Assembly election in the state is a fight between the ideologies of his party and the BJP.

After filing his nomination from the Tonk assembly seat, Mr Pilot said the Congress would not only win the election in Tonk, but also the entire state with a sizable margin.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has deceived the people and its report card is in front of the people. There is resentment among the people and they are waiting to vote for the Congress,” the state Congress president said.

“It is an important election and there is a wave for the Congress across the state,” he added.

Mr Pilot’s rival candidate, Yoonus Khan, who is the only Muslim candidate pitted in the election by the saffron party, also filed his nomination today.

“I would not like to comment on caste and religion. I have seen tension on Sachin Pilot’s face. We both have come to Tonk for the first time as election nominees,” Mr Khan said, adding that he had always accepted his party’s decision and was ready to work for the party anywhere in the country.

Mr Khan said he had done various developmental works in Tonk district as a public works department minister in the last five years and the development would remain the issue for him and his party in the upcoming election.

Earlier in the day, the BJP released its fifth list of six candidates, fielding Khan against Mr Pilot in the Muslim-dominated Tonk Assembly constituency by replacing sitting MLA Ajit Singh Mehta.

After the Congress fielded Mr Pilot in Tonk, the BJP did brainstorming and replaced Mr Mehta, who figured in the first list issued last week.

Mr Khan is a sitting MLA from Deedwana constituency of Nagaur district and his name was kept reserved by the party till the last moment.

Rajasthan will go to polls on December 7.

After ‘Dump Us As Ally’ Dare, UP Minister Attacks Yogi Government Again

The verbal exchange between the BJP and its ally in Uttar Pradesh, Om Prakash Rajbhar, turned more bitter today. Mr Rajbhar, who on Sunday dared the party to part ways with his outfit, accused the state government of denying funds to open schools for people with disabilities.

Mr Rajbhar, a state cabinet minister and the president of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, has an uneasy relationship with the BJP leadership in Uttar Pradesh. He has been making comments against the party and its decisions in the state and at the centre.

On Saturday, UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey had launched a scathing attack on Mr Rajbhar, calling him a “necessary evil”. “We are running a government in the state with overwhelming majority. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are doing exemplary work. On such a large ‘rajpath’, in political arena, there are some necessary evils (anivaarya buraai) who accompany you. As of now, it is Om Prakash (Rajbhar) who is a necessary evil is accompanying (us),” he said.

Today, Mr Rajbhar said in a tweet that there was no budget in the state for the empowerment of people with disabilities, but thousands of crores were being spent for Kumbh, a mega religious fair to be organised in Allahabad next year.

“In Uttar Pradesh, there are 16 divyaang (people with disabilities) schools in 75 districts. In the state, there are 1.5 crore divyaang people. Now, how will they study in these 16 schools? If we speak up in this regard, it is said that we are speaking against them in revolt,” he said in a series of tweets.

“Keeping in mind the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Ram Mandir issue is being fanned. Through Kumbh, branding of the Lok Sabha elections is being done. In Kumbh, thousands of crores of rupees are being spent, but when I seek budget for Divyaangjan Empowerment Department, there is no budget,” he added.

UP Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal said, “The question should be asked to the honourable Chief Minister. I am a minister who is equivalent to him (Mr Rajbhar). Hence, it will not be appropriate for me to comment on a person who is equivalent to me.”

Om Prakash Rajbhar recently said the clamour for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya was an “election drama” played out every time when the polls approach.
